Stop Waiting To Be Let Go!

Over the last year I cannot believe how many times I have heard people say that they are waiting to be let go from their jobs.  Are you one of these people that thinks you should stick around in your job until they make you leave?

I know what it is like to be in an environment where there are constant reorganizations and lots of people are being let go.  I know how difficult that can be and the stress that it causes.   But I just have never understood this rationale that people have that they will just stick it out until they are walked out the door.

When I voluntarily left my job to focus on my business full time I actually had several people ask me, but aren’t you leaving a lot of money on the table by leaving voluntarily?  Why wouldn’t you wait until they gave you a package?

My response is that I would much rather control my own destiny than to sit around and wait for someone else to dictate when and how I leave.

You see I am not one that is going to sit back and just do the bare minimum to get by in any job, business or in life.  I believe that if I am going to spend the majority of my time at a job then I am going to give it my all and it better be something I enjoy doing.

If you have been thinking it is better to just wait it out and be let go or wait for an early retirement offer (when you know you are not ready to retire) but you are also stressed out, can’t stand the work environment and spend more time complaining about the issues than you do actually working then you need to come up with a better plan.

Let me ask you; Why are you letting someone else control your destiny?  Why are you staying in a job that you don’t love for an indefinite amount of time?

You have no idea when that might actually happen.  It could be months, years or never.

And let’s just say that by chance it were to happen next month…then what would you do?  My guess is you probably don’t even have a plan or know what you want to do next.  You’d be scrambling to figure it out.

So why are you really hiding out there instead of making a change?

Does the fear and uncertainty of what to do next have you stuck?

Instead of sitting around only giving half your effort to your job now, why not start working on figuring out what you really want to do next.

Why not focus your energy on how you can make things better for yourself now instead of dragging yourself into the office every day letting the stress get you down?

You have so much more potential and there are so many better options for you.

It’s time to develop a career strategy that puts you back in the driver’s seat.

I know that probably feels overwhelming to think about but you don't have to do it alone.
